Will a copper ring turn my finger green?

I don't get this question a lot but I feel I need to address it. First we do not apply any coatings to our copper and each person’s skin reacts to Copper, Sterling Silver and Gold in different ways, some people will notice their finger turns black or green and others will have no reaction at all. There is no way to know if it will happen to you other than by wearing a copper ring. If your skin does have a reaction to the copper the black or green mark will usually disappear overnight (if you remove the ring) and will easily wash away with soap and water.

When a ring turns your finger black/green it is because of a chemical reaction between acids (the oil in you skin) and the metal of the ring or a reaction between another substance on your hand, such as a lotion, and the metal of the ring.

There is no permanent fix for the ring, If you want to try and prevent the ring from turning your finger there are a few things you can try. Make sure you remove your ring when you wash your hands, take a shower or go swimming. Clean your ring on a regular basis and apply a coat of Wax/Polish, I use Renaissance wax this only takes a few minutes to do. Any coatings you put on the ring will have to be applied regularly because it will wear off. The least expensive option is to apply a clear nail polish to the inside of the ring. The nail polish coating will prevent the ring’s metal alloys from coming in contact with your skin and prevent your finger from turning black/green. The clear polish will eventually wear off and when it does just add another application of the nail polish.

I like the look of copper jewelry and I am lucky not to have a reaction to it, but if you have a reaction to copper you might want to consider the ring in a Stainless Steel or Titanium band we can make all our rings with different metal bands.
